Rep. Bustos Tours Rockford Airport To Tout Air Cargo Caucus

Guy Stephens

Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos came to Rockford’s airport to mark Amazon’s expansion there and discuss the new Air Cargo Caucus she helped form.

The Representative of the state’s 17th District's visit to the Amazon facility at Chicago Rockford International Airport  included a look inside an Amazon Prime Air Jet loaded with cargo and a tour of the facility. The company brought 300 jobs when it joined UPS and Emery in 2016. The expansion to be completed this summer will nearly triple that. Bustos hailed the expansion, saying the air cargo industry is a boon for Rockford and Winnebago County, and for surrounding counties, as well.

“These are good paying jobs. There’s a potential to turn these jobs into careers, and it’s only going to grow. So it’s good for the overall economy,” Bustos said.

The Democrat says the bipartisan Air Cargo Caucus will help promote best practices and continued expansion. That includes Amazon and the other carriers at Rockford, as well as air cargo facilities across the state and nation.
