Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara has chosen Wester Wuori to serve as chief of staff for the City of Rockford.
According to a news release, the chief of staff position will support the overall work of the city and assist the mayor and aldermen. Wuori also will direct and coordinate daily operations of the mayor's office; manage and implement top-level city communications; oversee media relations; serve as a liaison to City Council members, and represent the mayor at governmental and community meetings.
Wuori most recently was vice president at Chartwell Agency where he coached a team of communications strategists responsible for providing clients with marketing, advertising, public relations and social media services.
Prior to joining Chartwell, Wuori served as director of marketing & public relations at Rockford Health System (now MercyHealth) for nearly 16 years.
He also has been a regular contributor to Northern Public Radio’s “Perspectives.” Wuori grew up on the East Coast but graduated from Hononegah High School. He earned a B.A. in English from Rockford University and an M.A. in Communication from Northern Illinois University.
