This is the 35th time that Calvin Madison has attempted parole.
Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato announced Thursday that the Prisoner Review Board voted to release him. He was convicted of the 1970 murder of John Hogan.
According to a news release, he needed at least eight votes to be released, and of the 13 members present today, only five of them were in favor of keeping Madison behind bars.
“While I respect the members of the Prisoner Review Board and understand the responsibility and duties they have, I am disappointed that Madison will be released after committing such a heinous crime,” says State’s Attorney Bruscato.
The release says Calvin Madison murdered John Hogan in Rockford back in 1970. Madison walked in to a gas station on W. State Street with a gun, and demanded Hogan give him money. Hogan did, but it wasn’t enough. Madison took Hogan into the restroom and shot him several times in the head execution style. Madison was originally sentenced to death but he was later re-sentenced to 75 to 150 years after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the death penalty was unconstitutional.
