Lee County State’s Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller is taking a leave of absence after her misdemeanor DUI arrest, according to Lee County Board Chairman Rick Ketchum.
Sauk Valley Media reports that Sacco-Miller's decision on whether to resign won’t be made public until a news conference this morning.
Sacco-Miller is an elected official, and the board cannot force her to resign. If she does, the board would appoint someone to fill the rest of her term, which expires Dec. 1, 2016.
Assistant State’s Attorney Matt Klahn is handling her duties in the meantime.
Police say Sacco-Miller was arrested after her van hit a parked car Sunday. No one was injured. She is charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Sacco-Miller was taken to Lee County Jail and released on bond. Her first court appearance is Dec. 16 in Lee County Court.
