DeKalb County This Week: Group looks for fundraising participants, local gymnasts heading to state

DeKalb High School

A Sycamore couple was killed on Saturday in a car crash on Peace Road. According to a press release issued by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle driven by Chynna Daugherty crossed over the center line while heading north on Peace Road. Her vehicle hit Christopher Henning, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Amanda Henning, was later pronounced dead after arriving at Kishwaukee Hospital. Daugherty was seriously injured, and now faces charges of driving under the influence and improper lane usage. Further investigation is pending.

The U.S. Senate is currently considering legislation that will allow the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation to reach a $10 million dollars settlement to buy land near Shabbona State Park. The Potawatomi Nation wants to reclaim land that they say was stolen from them in the early 19th century.

A popular DeKalb County fundraising effort is looking for non-profit organizations.

The DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership is hosting its 9th annual “Give DeKalb County” fundraising event on May 5, 2022. It raises money for local nonprofit organizations to help them continue providing important services throughout the county. The event brought in more than $1.5 million last year alone. Ben Bingle is the Director of Grants and the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership. He says there is a strong network of nonprofit organizations in DeKalb County.

The group is now looking for participant organizations. Details on how to register your organization and how to donate to the fundraiser can be found at www.GiveDeKalbCounty.org.
