Cullerton Calls On Rauner To Create New Budget

WUIS

Republican Governor Bruce Rauner has given credit to the Illinois state senate’s top Democrat for trying to negotiate with him during the budget impasse.

On Thursday,  that relationship hit a speed bump.

Senate President John Cullerton has offered bills that approach some of Governor Rauner’s priorities - like freezing property taxes.

Republicans say the proposals need to include anti-union policies.

Thursday - Cullerton was more forceful against Rauner - saying the governor should stop holding the budget hostage.

"The governor spent his time in office prioritizing a corporate agenda that will satisfy his corporate friends," Cullerton said.

Cullerton wants Rauner to introduce a new spending plan for the next 11 months.

The governor’s office issued a statement before Cullerton was even done talking with reporters - accusing the Chicago Democrat of wanting to raise taxes.

Cullerton denies that.
