Chicago Public Schools owes $634 million to its pension fund this week and they don’t have the cash.
But Governor Bruce Rauner says he’ll give CPS $450 million in grant money right now.
It comes with some icing.
In that the money would not need to be approved by the House and Senate.
Emanuel’s office says they need a “real solution”.
What they really want for CPS - is for the state to pick up the costs of Chicago teacher pensions going forward - which Rauner supports, but Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan has criticized.
In a statement - a Rauner spokesman says he’s waiting on Madigan to get serious about helping people.
