A top spokesman for U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock has resigned.
Benjamin Cole resigned following reports of racially charged posts on Cole’s Facebook page. The liberal political blog ThinkProgress.org published excerpts from what it says is a video from Cole’s Facebook page in 2013.
The video from Cole compares two African Americans in the video to zoo animals. Benjamin Cole, resigned after racist online statements came to light.
"I am extremely disappointed by the inexcusable and offensive online comments made by a member of my staff," Schock said in a statement to the Peoria Journal Star. "I would expect better from any member of my team. Upon learning about them, I met with Mr. Cole and he offered his resignation, which I have accepted."
The news comes after a Washington Post article said Cole tried to hinder reporting on free decorating services in Schock’s office in Washington. That’s also prompted a request for the Office of Congressional Ethics to look into the free decorating as a violation of House Rules. Schock says he intends to pay the decorating company for the work.
