Coffee May Help Reduce Melanoma Risk

Stuck without sunblock? Drinking coffee could reduce the risk of developing melanoma.

That’s according to a study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

The findings suggest caffeine acts as a sunscreen and absorbs ultraviolet radiation. Still, health officials say the best way to avoid skin cancer is to limit sun and UV ray exposure.

Other health benefits have been associated with coffee consumption, including a reduced risk of liver disease and type 2 diabetes. The benefits also include less of a risk for different types of cancer and diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
