The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is expected Friday to release proposed hydraulic fracturing rules to a group of state lawmakers. The state's law is now a year old, but officials are still hammering out the rules to get it started.

According to the IDNR website, officials will present the rules to the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules of the General Assembly to start the “Second Notice” period – a 45-day period consisting of review by staff, and then consideration at a public meeting of the panel's legislative members. IDNR’s submission will include a summary and analysis of the thousands of public comments received, and it will be made available on IDNR’s website.
