Some local fruit growers say a warm March followed by frosts in April has killed most of their crops. They say that could result in fewer apples, peaches and cherries this summer.
Velma Downes and her husband operate an orchard in Woodstock. She says they lost 80 to 90 percent of their apples this year due to the weather.
"We're pretty sure right now that we won't be opening this fall for picking. There just isn't that much out there to pick, so it's going to be an off year for us" Downes said.
The weather has caused similar problems for fruit growers in other states like Wisconsin and Michigan. Some farmers want state aid in getting low-interest loans to help get them through until next year.
