MALDEF president Thomas A. Saenz said for some elected officials, they perceive a threat to their continuing in office by the changes in the demographics as the Latino population grows in the community.

The resolution was approved on a 10 to 6 vote after arguments were made ranging from anti-immigrant rhetoric to pleas to understand the economic role immigrants play in the local economy.

The resolution lays out arguments for why the county will not support migrants and instead pledges to support "legal residents."
