The resolution was approved on a 10 to 6 vote after arguments were made ranging from anti-immigrant rhetoric to pleas to understand the economic role immigrants play in the local economy.

The ordinance mandates that bus operators get fined and their bus impounded if drop-offs of asylum seekers have not been approved by the city.

Jismary Alejandra Barboza González, 3, died on August 10, as the bus traveled through Marion County, located about 90 miles east of East St. Louis.
