Positive cases of coronavirus on the Northern Illinois University campus peaked in September, but the northern Illinois region continues to struggle with preventing new cases.
NIU’s COVID-19 Dashboard updates students and staff on the latest number of positive tests and recoveries. It began tracking cases at the start of the school year.
There have been more than 300 cases since then. The peak so far of positive cases was in early September.
NIU officials paused face-to-face classes last month for two weeks to reduce the number of new cases. They also conducted student surveillance testing to quarantine groups who were likely exposed.
DeKalb is within the state’s Region 1, which is currently under increased mitigation measures due to an increase in the overall positivity rate of the region.
Southern Illinois University is also keeping a similar record of campus cases. Since Sept.11th, there have been 48 positive cases among students and staff.
