Lee County Board Approves Mendota Hills Wind Farm Improvements

Dual Freq

The Lee County Board recently approved refits to the Mendota Hills Wind Farm.

The farm is owned by Dallas-based Leeward Renewable Energy, and operated at a deficit for the past four years.

Saukvalley.com reports the plans include uprooting the farm’s 63 turbines and replacing them with around 30 larger, more efficient models.  There were concerns that turbine spacing  could affect flights out of the privately owned Bresson Airport, but a vote to send the proposal back to the zoning board  narrowly failed.

Decommissioning the turbines could begin as early as May, and they could be in operation by October.
