The National Weather Services says an Excessive Heat Warning will remain in effect until 10:00 p.m. Friday. Thursday's temperatures could top 103 degrees. But it may feel even hotter with heat index readings predicted as high as 113 degrees.
There may be one bright spot. At least one Illinois grower says the dry weather brings out the sweetness of peaches.
Obviously, the heat isn't positive for all of the state's crops, including corn and soybeans.
Friday's high is expected to reach 104 with heat index readings as high as 117.
