It’s a big week for development in Rockford, and Mayor Larry Morrissey was happy to highlight that during his State of the City address.
Morrissey usually picks a theme for his annual speech to the city. Last night, for his ninth, he chose “A Better Rockford Today.” He says it represents the real work being done now by real people to improve their city. Morrissey credited individuals and community groups like Transform Rockford.
“Rockford’s real challenge is not a lack of resources or capacity. It’s the impossibility of taking on the biggest problems alone.”
Morrissey clicked through a list of “better” goals during his 45 minute speech: better education, better roads, better planning, better public safety… he got his biggest applause from the small crowd in the roomy Coronado Theatre when he mentioned the Amerock/Ziock Building. Earlier this week, city council approved a project that would convert the empty industrial behemoth into a hotel and convention center.
