Primitive Technology of our Ancestors

Primitive Technology of our Ancestors

Harvard resident Richard Hamilton of “The Written Stone” will demonstrate how he creates traditional “primitive technologies” used by our native ancestors for over 15,000 years.

Learn the basic science of outdoor fire-starting using combustibles, charcoal, and oxygen. See a demonstration on how to create cordage”, a type of rope or string used for fishing lines and nets that will be created out of natural plant fibers such as nettle and milkweed. Richard will also demonstrate the craft of “flint knapping”, using flint, obsidian, and chert to craft blades and arrowheads. You’ll even have some hands-on practice!

This event will be held outdoors at the Lion’s Park pavilion and moved indoors in case of inclement weather.

Free and open to the public. Registration is required to attend. Sign up at www.harvard-diggins.org/events
