Music You Know with the ESO
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra’s “Music You Know” concerts make orchestra music approachable to newcomers with its shorter, recognizable pieces, while providing longtime symphony fans a chance to hear some of their favorite compositions in a more intimate setting. The concerts feature music that most people will recognize from movies, theater, television, and commercials, but that that they may not know by name.
The next “Music You Know” concert will be held Friday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m., at the Blizzard Theatre at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Dr Building H, in Elgin, Ill. Tickets start at $20 and are available through the Blizzard Theatre box office at www.eccartscenter.org. Students with a valid student ID qualify for $10 student tickets. Parking is free at the Blizzard Theatre.
ESO Music Director Chad Goodman will lead the Orchestra in a 90-minute program that includes:
Selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” and “Sleeping Beauty”
Bartók’s “Romanian Folk Dances”
Mascagni’s Intermezzo from “Cavalleria rusticana”
Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
Piazzolla’s “Oblivion”
Cook’s Overture to “In Dahomey”
Copland’s “Saturday Night Waltz” from “Rodeo”
Selections from [incidental music to] “L'Arlésienne”
