Built By Barbed Wire

Built By Barbed Wire

It’s been 150 years since “the winner” — the most popular barbed wire ever designed — was patented by Jacob Glidden. Learn about his competition as we discuss rival barbed wire inventor Jacob Haish and his lasting legacy in DeKalb.

Glidden Homestead executive director Jessi Haish LaRue will give a short presentation on the invention of barbed wire and Jacob Haish, including his gift of the Haish Memorial Library Building.

Then accompany DeKalb Public Library director Emily Faulkner for a tour and behind-the-scenes look at the nationally registered historic building and the award-winning 2016 expansion.

This program is free and open to all. No registration is required.

For additional information, please contact Emily at emilyf@dkpl.org or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 1000.
