Illinois Governor Pat Quinn released a five-year plan to restructure the state's Medicaid program. If approved by the federal government, it would allow the state to receive funds to update the state's health care infrastructure. According to the state's Health Care Reform website, the purpose is to demonstrate and evaluate policy approaches such as:
- Expanding eligibility to individuals who are not otherwise Medicaid or CHIP eligible
- Providing services not typically covered by Medicaid such as supportive housing
- Using innovative service delivery systems that improve care, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.
