Slideshow: Jordan Lynch Reacts To Heisman Invite

Northern Illinois University’s quarterback says he has earned his trip to New York City this weekend. Jordan Lynch is one of six finalists for the Heisman Trophy, college football’s highest honor.

Lynch says he understands the competition is tough.

"I was happy getting the invite, but I tell you, I am going there to win. I'm not going there to come in last place or second place, I'm going there to win."

Lynch says of course he didn’t become a finalist for the Heisman on his own: he credits his family, his team, and his coach, Rod Carey. But he deserves a lot of credit, too. It has been an amazing year…and career…for Lynch at Northern. He’s ranked fourth nationally in total offense. His team finished 12 and 1 this season, their only loss last week in their division’s championship. Lynch says the sting of that loss still simmers under the joy of learning he’s a Heisman Trophy finalist.

“The news is great and everything, but I’d trade this in a heartbeat for a win, I’d take the MAC championship in a heartbeat over this whole Heisman thing.”

Lynch finds out Saturday evening if he’ll be the first Mid-American Conference player to ever win the Heisman. Then there’s one more game to cap his career at NIU: the Huskies take on Utah State the day after Christmas in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.
