The Sound of Science - 'STEM Fest'

NIU STEAM
The Sound of Science

Jasmine: Hi, I'm Jasmine.

Chrissy: I'm Chrissy.

Jasmine: We're from NIU STEAM and...

Chrissy: You're listening to the Sound of Science on WNIJ. On September 28th, from 10 AM to 3 PM, our amazing community will be participating in free family fun at the 15th annual NIU STEMFest! What a great time to talk about what STEAM is and why it is important to participate and support these programs.

Jasmine: STEAM is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. You'll sometimes see it used interchangeably with the acronym STEM. Each discipline is represented individually; however, it truly is all about an interdisciplinary marriage between all 5 content areas.

Chrissy: STEAM programs enhance regular classroom instruction by adding the aspects of inspiration and innovation. Interests rooted in nature, art, problem solving, critical thinking, and collaborative conversations have the potential to become tangible products or solutions to enhance our everyday lives, improve efficiency, or address a need.

Jasmine: STEMFest celebrates all of this! With interactive exhibits and demonstrations, you can learn and experience cutting edge STEAM topics through hands-on discovery. It's a networking opportunity that allows professionals, college faculty, educators, enthusiasts, and community members the ability to build connections and share ideas, research, initiatives, and projects. Most of which are local!

Chrissy: STEMFest is designed to be family-friendly with something for everyone and with more than 100 exhibits, speakers, and demonstrations there is sure to be a place to connect and belong. Most importantly though, by attending you are supporting and inspiring the next generations of scientists, artists, engineers, and innovators that will impact our lives in the future.

Jasmine: You've been listening to the Sound of Science on WNIJ, where you learn something new every day.
