The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs says it’s been a successful year for the “Serving Those Who Served” program.
In November, it worked to match volunteers with local service projects. Spokesman Dave McDonna says they had 41 projects and 570 volunteers by the end of the month.
"We had a project where we assisted moving new furniture into an apartment building for permanent housing for homeless veterans," he said. "We had a project asking to write letters and notes of thanks to veterans, and we were able to find volunteers for all those projects."
