The Addams Thread

The Addams Thread

Friday, October 13th at 1:30pm
Maddox Theatre
Free Admission
Jane Addams is indeed the renowned alumnus of Rockford University. Or rather, Rockford Female Seminary as it was when she graduated in 1881. She founded Hull House in Chicago, the first settlement house in the United States, and the first woman from the US to win the Noble Peace Prize in 1931.

The years in between the founding of Hull House in 1889 and winning of the Peace Prize, Jane Addams would accomplish life-changing moments in history. She would recognize her alma mater as a training ground, an educational experience helping her to dedicate her life to advancing the cause for social change. Jane Addams christened her college classmates “The Glorious Seventeen.” These young women were her friends and inspiration for championing the causes of women and all groups without a voice for social reform. This play is dedicated to these women and the legacy they have left for the current students of Rockford University.
