Putnam County Public Library District to Host Screening of The Sun Queen
The Putnam County Public Library District will host a Movie Matinee screening of The Sun Queen on Tuesday, August 12th at 1:00 p.m. at the Granville Branch, 214 S. McCoy Street, Granville.
This powerful 52-minute documentary chronicles the life and groundbreaking work of Mária Telkes, a trailblazing chemical engineer and inventor who devoted her life to unlocking the power of the sun. Known as the “Sun Queen,” Telkes was a true visionary in the field of renewable energy — credited with building the world’s first successfully solar-heated modern home and developing an innovative chemical compound that could store solar energy like a battery.
Despite facing systemic resistance and sabotage from her male peers at MIT, Telkes persevered. Over the course of her remarkable career, she was awarded more than 20 patents and helped lay the foundation for modern solar energy technology. Today, her legacy is being rediscovered and celebrated as a cornerstone in the history of sustainable innovation. Presented through public performance rights from Kanopy, The Sun Queen is rated PG and suitable for a general audience.
