Public Meeting to Promote Oversight and Transparency about the Marquis BioCarbon Project
The Putnam County CO₂ Action Team (PCCAT) will host a public meeting to discuss Marquis Energy’s proposed Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) initiative, known as the Marquis BioCarbon Project.
In response to growing concerns about transparency, safety, and environmental impacts, PCCAT invited Mr. Mark Marquis, CEO of Marquis Energy, or a designated representative, to present information about the project, however, Mr. Marquis respectfully declined. The meeting format will include a brief background about this relatively new technology, Carbon Sequestration, as well as information about the promise of the industry, the regulating agencies, federal and state legislation, community regulations, links to important information, and the 45Q taxpayer-supported federal tax credit to this industry. The presentation will be followed by a community Q & A session to address community concerns and interest.
There is still significant uncertainty surrounding CCS technology — particularly related to safety — due to the planned injection well’s close proximity to residential homes, an elementary school, and the Village of Hennepin’s water supply. These issues also raise concerns for neighboring communities that provide emergency services through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS).
PCCAT encourages residents, local officials, and media to attend and participate in this vital discussion about the project’s potential impacts and the need for proper oversight.
Meeting Details Tuesday, August 12th, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM McNabb Fire Department, 391 IL-89, McNabb, IL The Putnam County CO₂ Action Team (PCCAT) is a grassroots organization of local residents advocating for public oversight of industrial CCS proposals.
