Public Meeting at Lake Thunderbird on Carbon Capture and Sequestration

Public Meeting at Lake Thunderbird on Carbon Capture and Sequestration

The Putnam County CO₂ Action Team (PCCAT) invites area residents to a public informational meeting on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., to discuss Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS). The event will take place at the Lake Thunderbird (2 Lake Thunderbird Drive, Putnam, IL) providing community members with the opportunity to learn more about this emerging technology and its potential impact on the region.

The meeting will focus on the relevance of CCS to the Marquis Energy plant in Hennepin, Illinois, and the broader implications for public safety, groundwater, air quality, local costs, and the environment. Attendees will also learn how CCS projects are being implemented in other communities across Illinois and the United States, and how these projects are funded—often through federal tax incentives to private companies.
The event will include a brief presentation from PCCAT, followed by a live Q&A session with experts in the CCS field. Community members are encouraged to bring questions and concerns.

This meeting is free and open to the public. For more information or to stay updated on future meetings, please visit www.pccatcommunity.org or contact info@pccatcommunity.org.
