Pickard Studio (Circa 1893 – Present). The Pickard story starts in 1893 when Wilder Pickard (1857-1939) established the company in Edgerton, WI. At the turn of the 20th Century, Pickard moved to Chicago where the company specialized in hand-painted pieces. Artists from the famed Art Institute of Chicago and all over Europe came to Chicago to work for Pickard and decorate one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces. Some of these artists went on to establish their own studios. In 1977, Pickard was selected by the U.S. Department of State to manufacture the official service of china used by American embassies and other diplomatic missions around the world. Pickard was also selected to produce exclusive fine china services for heads of state, corporations, and hotels, including the U.S. Air Force, the United Nations, Air Force One, Blair House and Camp David. Since 1937 the company has been located in Antioch, IL.
Other pieces on display include work by Boehm Porcelain (Circa 1950 – 2014); Stouffer Studio (Circa 1905-1952); Meissen Porcelain (Circa 1708 – present); and Whites Art Company (Circa 1914 – 1923).
This is all part of the Bry Collection and a sample of what you will see when you visit the Coliseum Museum in downtown Oregon, IL. At present there are nearly sixteen hundred individual pieces on display including ceramics, glass, arts & craft, carved wood, Native American artifacts, and of course pottery among other unique items.
The Coliseum Museum is open Wednesday - Saturday.
