New France in Illinois and Wisconsin
New France in Illinois and Wisconsin
The French in the Heartland! With the guidance of speaker Mark Peterson, we will look back at the years (1524-1763) when the French explored and settled in what is now Illinois and Wisconsin. Mark examines the French relations with the Native Americans and the consequences to the French and Native Americans in their conflict with the British. Today’s French sites such as Portage, WI and Fort De Chartres in Illinois will be discussed. Pictured is Fort de Chartres in Prairie Rocher, Illinois. Everyone is cordially invited to this talk.
