Stephenson County Jail

A nationally-recognized Abraham Lincoln interpreter from Freeport has been arrested on charges related to child pornography and patronizing a prostitute. The booking information for George Buss, 63, was posted by the Stephenson County Sheriffs Office on Friday, Aug. 28.

Buss was well-known for sharing his likeness of the 16th president.

He also worked as a northern Illinois educator.

According to his website, Buss made his first Lincoln appearance in 1986 representing the Land of Lincoln at a National Educational Association Convention in New Orleans.

Over the years, he has been the featured act at Gettysburg to recite Lincoln's famous Gettysburg address.

Buss has been interviewed for several WNIJ podcast and feature segments.

He's also been interviewed on C-SPAN and other national outlets for his work as Lincoln.

During the pandemic, Buss continued to portray Lincoln during virtual events related to the president's legacy.
