Peregrine Party

Peregrine Party
Meet a Peregrine Falcon up close, learn about this special species, and practice birding skills on our trails! This is a family-friendly indoor event followed by an optional one mile hike.
Since 2018, a pair of Peregrine Falcons began nesting in downtown Rockford. The only documented pair in Winnebago County soon captured the attention of Rockford residents through a live camera where the community could watch mating rituals, eggs hatching, and the young eyases developing up close. In 2020, Rockford declared the Peregrine Falcon the official city bird, cementing their legacy in city and peregrine history.
Join us as we hear from Jennifer Kuroda about these birds and how they grabbed the attention of people around the world. Joining Jennifer is local falconer Michael Cogar, who will bring a live Peregrine Falcon. Jennifer Kuroda is the President of the Audubon Council of Illinois and of the Sinnissippi Audubon chapter.
Following the indoor presentation, guests are invited on a guided hike to Eagle Point to see an eagle nest. The trail is mostly flat and likely a little muddy. Early March is typical egg laying time for Bald Eagles!
