Elgin Master Chorale performs J.S. Bach's St. John Passion
The Elgin Master Chorale, in collaboration with the Bella Voce Sinfonia, proudly presents a breathtaking performance of J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Blizzard Theatre at the Elgin Community College Arts Center.
For the first time in Elgin Master Chorale history, this performance will introduce supertitles, offering real-time English translations of the original German libretto. This innovation will allow audiences to fully engage with the storytelling, drama, and emotion of St. John Passion in an accessible and immersive way.
Starting 30 minutes before the concert, Andrew Lewis will lead an informative discussion about the music, composer, and historical context of this piece being performed. The inaugural Beyond the Bar Lines talk for St. John Passion will begin at 3:00 PM, offering attendees a behind-the-scenes look at Bach’s masterpiece before the concert begins.
Also, as part of our first-ever community partnership with Enriching Partnerships for Early Learning (EPEL), we will be collecting diapers (sizes 0-5) and monetary donations at the concert to support families in need.
• Bring a pack of diapers (sizes 0-5)
• Bring a book for young children
• Make a monetary donation at the concert to support EPEL’s early learning initiatives
