After-hours Concert: Apollo Strings Quartet

After-hours Concert: Apollo Strings Quartet

Join us for an after-hours concert in the library’s main lobby with the Apollo Strings Quartet! They will be performing a wide variety of songs ranging from pop, movie themes, jazz pieces and standards, as well as a lovely selection of traditional classical masterpieces.

Apollo Strings Quartet is a premiere student-formed and directed string ensemble consisting of highly talented youth musicians from both Sycamore and Sugar Grove. Having met during the summer of 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, these students began their group as a way to continue playing and performing live music when all other options had been shut down.

The four members of Apollo Strings are an amazing group of talented students. Emma Fredericks, current student director and violinist, is a Senior at Sycamore High School. Aeryn Hwang, violin, is a Junior at Kaneland High School. Vienna Hwang, viola, younger sister to Aeryn, is a Freshman at Kaneland High School. Our newest member, Evan Tonaki, cello, from Sycamore Middle School, joined us in this, our third year, making it possible for Apollo Strings to continue performing for one more and final year.

Apollo Strings Quartet upcoming and final 2023 Spring Concert is titled "As Time Goes By: majestic melodies through the years". The theme for this concert represents a dual meaning for the group. The repertoire that will be performed for this concert covers compositions from four centuries. From the classical 1700's work of GF Handel, the 1800's Romantic era beauty from Rachmaninov, a variety of 1900's pieces including Gershwin and Nino Rota, and a powerful medley arrangement of the film epic Lord of the Rings from 2001, as well as a few other lovely melodies, this set list truly represents a cascade of music with the passage of time.

With this being the final year the quartet will perform, the theme of this concert is also meant as a tribute to the unexpected and amazing years these student musicians have played together, brought together by the void created by a pandemic, and the beauty of the music they have created and shared with all of us the past three years.

This concert is free and open to all. No registration is required. Light refreshments will be available while supplies last. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and music will begin at 6:30 p.m.
