The Illinois State Police is shutting down southbound Interstate 39 at the El Paso exit after approximately 100 vehicles were involved in a mass collision incident.

Authorities said the crash scene is several hundred yards long. One ISP squad car was struck, with no one injured.

Traffic is being diverted from I-39 at El Paso to Illinois Route 251.

The Illinois Department of Transportation reports another crash on southbound Interstate 39 near Kappa, involving at least seven vehicles.

The Woodford County Sheriff's Office said Interstate 74 westbound near Goodfield is also closed due to multiple accidents.

Weather conditions remain extremely poor throughout central Illinois as a winter storm system makes its way through the area. Whiteout conditions are common.
