Illinois Vehicle License Reminders Will Be Mailed -- And May Have Ads

cyberdriveillinois.com

Illinois motorists soon will get vehicle registration reminders in the mail again. They also might get something extra with those reminders in the future.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced Monday that he is reinstating the reminders. He also is asking the legislature to allow his office to offer advertising space on them to defray the cost of the mailings.

The Secretary of State’s office discontinued mailing reminders in October 2015, citing a lack of funding due to the state budget impasse. White says funding included in the stopgap budget allows his office to start mailing the notices once more.

White also is urging the public to sign up for email notices to further reduce costs. Vehicle owners can sign up for email notifications at the Secretary of State website, www.cyberdriveillinois.com.  Information also is available from the Secretary of State public inquiry division at 800-252-8980.
