It’s time to sign up or pay up. The deadline for getting an insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act is Sunday.
You either have health insurance Monday or face fines -- big fines, starting at $695. Kathleen Falk is the Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She says there are a lot of reasons people haven’t registered yet, including still not being convinced they can finally get an insurance company to cover them.
Falk says you can find out if you qualify for health care subsidies or Medicaid when you enter financial information into the state or federal health care websites. She says more than 350-thousand Illinoisans have joined the program over the past few months.
The deadline is midnight Pacific Time Sunday. That gives Illinoisans an extra two hours to get covered.
Falk says the best place for Illinois residents to go to get coverage is getcoveredillinois.org. There's also help at the federal website, healthcare.gov and by calling 866-311-1119. But it's going to be crowded.
