Pritzker Taps Kelly To Lead State Police

Illinois State Police

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker named his pick to run the Illinois State Police.

Pritzker wants Brendan Kelly for the top job.

Kelly ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for Illinois' 12th Congressional  District in November.

According to a news release, he currently serves as the State's Attorney of St. Clair County, a post he’s held since 2010.

Kelly also served as an officer in the United States Navy.

Kelly was appointed by former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn to the Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission in 2013 and was recently appointed by Governor Bruce Rauner to the Illinois Criminal Justice and Sentencing Reform Commission.

The appointment still needs Senate confirmation.
