New statistics released yesterday by the US Census Bureau say Cook County has lost more population than any other county in the nation last year (2014-2015)
Chicago and the surrounding metro area lost over 10,000 people, in a year when most municipalities grew.
Experts suggest the population dip is due to decreased immigration, an aging Mexican immigrant population, and dwindling numbers of black residents.
Chigago demographer Rob Paral adds that the population drop isn't a very big deal, given Cook county's population of 5.2 million and metro area population of 9.5 million.
