Snow emergencies

Rockfordians Share Their 'Snow Culture'

Nov 26, 2018

Whether you love snow or hate it, the white stuff has made its presence known. Rockfordians who live in the city and the country have let us know what they think about it. We caught up with them before, during, and after the historic snowfall.

We first spoke with Mike Delany as he and his wife Angela Schmidt shoveled not just their house, but the property next door. Both were in good spirits and optimistic about the condition of the roads. But Delany did admit, "The first heavy snow of the season is met with an interesting mix of anticipation and dread."

National Weather Service

Severe winter weather is expected across the WNIJ listening area starting tonight.

The storm system is coming down from Montana and is expected to arrive around the dinner hour this evening.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for DeKalb, Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, McHenry, LaSalle, Grundy, Kane, and Kendall Counties from 6 p.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Friday.  Furthermore, Rockford, South Beloit, and Beloit already have declared snow emergencies.  NIU staff meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste says to expect heavy snowfall overall.
