Reaction is coming in from lawmakers representing all corners of the state as it pertains to the vote to avoid another government shutdown as well as President Trump's announcement Friday to declare a national emergency to fund a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

On A Friday Forum earlier this year, Illinois U.S. Representatives Bill Foster and Randy Hultgren talked about their hopes and concerns for the new Congress as it began its work. For this week's Friday Forum, WNIJ's Guy Stephens asked the two for an update on how things are going in Congress.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday that allows churches to become more active politically. Critics say it could lead to LGBTQ discrimination, but U.S. lawmakers introduced a bill Tuesday that would prevent that discrimination – with several from Illinois as co-sponsors.

The Affordable Health Care Act, the Republican proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act, has many on one side of the aisle in an uproar.

Congressional Democrats Bill Foster (IL-11) and Cheri Bustos (IL-17) have voiced strong opposition to the newly proposed bill. Foster worries that the new plan proposed by Republicans will negatively affect the elderly, rapidly bankrupt Medicare, and give tax cuts to the wealthy.
