Northern Illinois University Fills Bowls To Fight Hunger

Empty Bowls is an international effort to fight hunger using ceramic arts. Each bowl is symbolic, according to Kelly Furr, president of the Student Dietetic Association.

"And it just represents a child that could be hungry," Furr said. The bowls were donated by the NIU Ceramic Arts organization for a recent fundraiser.

Area efforts to combat hunger are the focus of a concert this weekend at NIU. 

“Make Our Garden Grow” will feature NIU, high school and community choruses.  NIU Choral Director Eric Johnson is the man behind the event.  WNIJ’s Guy Stephens asked him what he was hoping to accomplish.

The Northern Illinois Food Bank says it's seeing new trends when it comes to the people it serves. It comes as the organization gathers new statistics for a detailed report.
