Republican State Rep. Jeff Keicher held onto his seat in the Illinois 70th District race.  He defeated Democratic challenger Paul Stoddard and credits both his team and campaign for the victory.

“I have an amazing team of not only volunteers, but interns and campaign assistants, and the community in general who really stood up and helped because our message is one for making Illinois a better place for the long term," Keicher said.

Democrat Lauren Underwood gathered supporters at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St. Charles.

She delivered her victory speech as final tallies came in for the Chicago suburbs. Underwood successfully unseated Republican incumbent Randy Hultgren, to represent the 14th congressional district.

"I aspire to be a bold representative for this community," Underwood said. "Someone who is wholly responsive and accountable to her constituents-- unbought and unbossed."

Pritzker Routs Rauner For Illinois Governorship

The chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party says voters "rejected the politics of negativity, personal destruction and blame" in Tuesday's election.

House Speaker Michael Madigan of Chicago says Democrats' victories answered a "call for a new day in Illinois."

Democrat J.B. Pritzker defeated incumbent Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner. Rauner harshly criticized Madigan as corrupt as they locked horns repeatedly during a record-long budget stalemate that resulted in billions of dollars of overspending.

Democratic State Senator Kwame Raoul of Chicago defeated Urbana lawyer Erika Harold – in the race for Attorney General.

Just an hour and a half after the polls closed, Harold took the stage at the I-Hotel to announce she had conceded to her democratic opponent. While many expected a close race, Raoul held an early double-digit lead over the Harvard law grad.

Despite the outcome, Harold said she was proud of her campaign.

She also invoked her strong religious faith in her concession speech.

Federal, state, and local elections will be monitored on Election Day by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office.

The United Sates Attorney’s Office will monitor elections in Rockford and the surrounding area on Election Day. As part of the effort, the office will operate a telephone hotline where citizens can report complaints related to the voting process. The hotline number is 312-469-6159. It will be staffed by assistant U.S. attorneys, on Election Day only.

In an especially contentious election year, there are a couple alternatives to the major party candidates in the race for Illinois governor. But, even some backers of third parties say they aren’t great options either, though that’s not where they want the story to end.

Illinois Senator Dick Durbin was in Springfield today (WED), casting his ballot in the 2018 Election. He says he's encouraged by early voting tallies in Illinois so far, and that immigration is now among the chief issues thanks to President Trump.

President Donald Trump rallied Republicans in southern Illinois over the weekend. This week, a prominent Democrat returned the favor. Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden made a stop in St. Charles on Wednesday to drum up support for 14th congressional candidate Lauren Underwood. She faces Republican incumbent Randy Hultgren.

Illinois residents are registering to vote and casting their ballots early in record numbers.

The Illinois State Board of Elections reports more than 8 million people have registered to vote, which is higher than the amount in the 2016 Presidential election.  Spokesman Matt Dietrich says there’s also been a rise in early voting.

“Right now we’ve got close to 750,000 early votes cast," he said.  "If that keeps up, we’ll definitely surpass the number that we saw in 2014, which was 791,000. But it’s also possible that we could have more early votes cast than we saw in 2016.”

Early voting is in full swing as time winds down before the midterm election. It's been available to Rockford residents since Sep. 27th and voters have turned up in droves.

The city’s Board of Elections has counted more than 5,000 votes to date. But Executive Director Stacey Bixby says it’s difficult to compare numbers with the previous midterm election because early voting worked differently in 2014.

Election day is just a week away. Voters in the 16th Congressional District will choose between Republican incumbent Adam Kinzinger and Democratic challenger Sara Dady.

Days before the election, a leading motorcycle group is rescinding its endorsement of Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner.

Health care, trade, and the tax overhaul are three of the biggest issues in the race for the 13th Congressional District between incumbent Rodney Davis and challenger Betsy Dirksen Londrigan.

Is There A Future For Recreational Pot In Illinois?

Canada recently became the largest country in the world to legalize recreational marijuana. Lines of customers looking to buy government regulated cannabis stretched for blocks. Clive Moore is a student at Concordia University in Montreal. He says he didn't expect the law to become a reality.

"It seems, ridiculous, it's just one of those things we just asked the government for repeatedly, and eventually they each caved in and gave it to us," said Moore.

The 70th House District covers parts of DeKalb, Kane, and Winnebago counties. Since 2003, it's been represented in the General Assembly by Republican Bob Pritchard. Earlier this year, Pritchard resigned from his position to join Northern Illinois University's Board of Trustees.

After participating in the primary, party offiicals picked State Farm insurance agent Jeff Keicher to fill out the term.

Gun control is one of the most hotly contested national topics. In Illinois, debate and concern around gun-related bills spawned numerous referenda throughout the state. Next month, more than a dozen rural counties across Illinois will have ballot measures asking the state to stop passing gun control laws.    Iroquois County Board Chairman, John Shure, has one of them on the ballot.

Even though there are roughly 434 other options, there may not be a more compelling House race in the nation than the contest for Illinois’ 12th Congressional District.

The contest between incumbent Republican Mike Bost and Democrat Brendan Kelly features two candidates with impressive track records of public service. While Republicans have gained ground in the district in recent years, the 12th District, which includes the Metro East, has a rich Democratic legacy and political infrastructure that gives Kelly a fighting chance.

Candidates in the race for Illinois’ 13th Congressional seat squared off in the first of four debates in Springfield on Monday. Recent polling has suggested the race could be close between Republican incumbent Rodney Davis and Democratic challenger Betsy Dirksen Londrigan.

The battle for the Senate is being fought on Republican-friendly turf, and with three weeks until Election Day the GOP is increasingly optimistic that the chamber will remain in the party's grasp.

Fears that a fiery Democratic opposition could turn the map upside down have abated some, now that the GOP base is more tuned in following the confirmation fight over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

In the middle of a fiercely-fought election between Democrats and Republicans, one group is trying to encourage voters to pick candidates from outside of the two-party system.

The effort comes at a time when voters are dissatisfied with both major political parties. Nearly 70 percent of voters say Republicans and Democrats fail to adequately represent the American people, according to a recent survey from the nonpartisan Democracy Fund.

Vice President Mike Pence was in Springfield Friday, stumping for Congressman Rodney Davis. Pence has been crisscrossing the country to help GOP candidates maintain control of districts that could flip Democratic in the midterm election.

Everybody is busy and Nicole Rundall Royal is no exception, but the vote must go on.  Nicole took a minute to talk to us outside the Rockford Board of Elections after she voted early.  She told us the process was very simple.

"I just went in and gave them my name and they handed me a ballot and I went and voted.  It took me maybe five minutes."

You might have seen social media posts saying Tuesday was the voter registration deadline in Illinois.

But don’t worry: Illinois residents can sign up to vote through Election Day.

A new statewide poll shows Republican President Donald Trump may weigh down Illinois’ GOP candidates in the midterm election.

Southern Illinois University’s Simon Institute surveyed more than 700 Illinois voters. They were asked whether President Trump’s record in office would make them more or less likely to vote for Illinois Republicans in state and Congressional races.

A new poll shows Illinois Democrats are far more enthusiastic about voting in this fall’s election than Republicans.

How The Illinois Governor's Race Gets 'Social'

Oct 3, 2018

If you live in Illinois and visited Facebook or YouTube in the last year, chances are you've run into this JB Pritzker ad a few times. It was so pervasive that at one point Reddit threads started to pop up about it.

There are two third party candidates for Illinois governor. And while four names will be on the ballot November 6th (or now, if you choose to vote early) - the efforts to get out messaging is one where odds are certainly stacked heavily against Sam McCann of the Conservative party, and Grayson "Kash" Jackson, running as a Libertarian.
