The City of Rockford has a new casino in the works, and officials will soon evaluate possible sites and construction plans.

State government is granting six new casino licenses as part of the gambling expansion bill signed in May.  One of these is for Rockford, and city government is currently accepting proposals. Mayor Tom McNamara says the proposals include details such as where the casino will be built, and how it will run.

Demolition Begins On Iconic Rockford Resort

At the end of the first day of demolition, what used to be the entrance to the Clock Tower Convention Center is no more. Countless numbers of prom-goers and wedding celebrants and conventioneers passed through those doors over the decades.

Contractors started leveling the former landmark on East State Street at the entrance to Interstate 90 where, for decades, the Clock Tower was a sign that travelers had arrived in Rockford.

Businesses are leaving the Clock Tower Resort in Rockford.  

The Rockford Register Star reports hair salon Totally You was forced out due to the lack of hot water and heating. Meanwhile, the owner of Sisters Thai Cafe says utilities were turned off last week, and she plans to leave at the end of the month, when her lease expires.  Olson Photography will follow suit.
