A grand jury has indicted the wife of a Fox Lake police officer who killed himself after stealing money from a youth program.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office says Melodie Gliniewicz was indicted on felony counts of money laundering and disbursing charitable funds without authority for personal benefit. According to investigators, Melodie Gliniewicz had a "fiduciary role" with the Fox Lake Police Explorer Post, which her husband led. He was accused of embezzling money from the program and using it for personal expenses, such as a trip to Hawaii and adult websites.
Bond for Melodie Gliniewicz was set at $50,000. Her attorney says she is a victim of her late husband's crimes and looks forward to proving her innocence in court.
