Ward Of State Charged With Murder

willcountyillinois.com

A Joliet woman is scheduled to appear in a Will County courtroom Wednesday for the murder of her roommate.

It is believed to be the first time since 2009 that a ward of the State of Illinois has been arrested for murder.

Sources say Kadiedra Speed was adopted by parents who ended up abusing her.

And she spent time in psychiatric hospitals.

Court records show she got in several fights in her teens.

And lived in four homes in five years. Most recently, in Joliet.

Will County prosecutors say it was there that the 20-year-old Speed got into an argument with her roommate, an employee at Hollywood Casino.

After leaving the apartment - court records allege Speed returned, and stabbed and killed Sharleatha Green.

It’s not clear whether Illinois’ Department of Children and Family Services missed warning signs of violent behavior from Speed.

DCFS would not comment - citing privacy laws.

Speed is currently in Will County Jail on a $1.5 million bond.
