Voting Opens For Local Elections

Polls for the consolidated election are open today, Tuesday, until 7 p.m.

Seats for library trustees, park district commissioners, and aldermen are just some included on northern Illinois ballots today.

In Ogle County, Rochelle and Byron will vote for city mayor. Hillcrest will choose the village president.

Oregon Mayor Ken Williams is running unopposed. He said he's hoping for a high voter turnout.

"When we have these consolidated elections, which are just pretty much local, we don't usually get as good of a turnout as a national election," he said. "But I am hoping to see more involvement in younger folks. And I'll keep my fingers crossed that we get a better turnout than normal."

Oregon is also voting on school board funding for their district's first on-campus resource officer.

"The school board requested it, especially after the incident in Dixon, Illinois, where they had a school shooting incident, and other problems that seem to be migrating to where you wouldn't think they'd be down in the level of schools, they now are," Williams said.

Residents can still register to vote today at their local election office.
