Update: Reinstated Wisconsin Voter ID Law Causing Headaches For Election Officials

Wisconsin voters who received, or plan to use, an absentee ballot will need to show photo ID for their ballot to be counted.

Wisconsin Government Accountability Board Director Kevin Kennedy announced today how election officials will implement the state's reinstated voter ID law.

According to the announcement, thousands of voters received an absentee ballot without being notified about the photo ID requirement.

Election clerks will now have to contact those voters that received or requested absentee ballots and inform them about the ID rule. Ballots will not be counted unless the voter submitted a copy of their photo ID.

Wisconsin is trying to figure out how it will implement the state's recently reinstated voter ID requirements.

According to the state's Government Accountability Board, nearly 12,000 absentee ballots were either being prepared or already mailed out to voters.

Wisconsin officials are currently working on directions for election clerks on how to implement the photo ID requirements. The Board will hold a news conference on Tuesday.

The US 7th Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated the law on September 12.

Information regarding the state's voter ID lawcan be found here.
