The Sycamore City Council adopted an ordinance Monday that regulates donation boxes for clothes, shoes and other products.

The measure addresses recent complaints that boxes have appeared on private property without permission, some becoming dumping grounds for unwanted goods. When property owners tried to contact the owners of the boxes, they received no response.

The Daily Chronicle reports the ordinance limits boxes to highway business and manufacturing districts, and owners would have to pay a $200 annual license fee.  This amount would be waived for nonprofits that serve DeKalb County.

City officials will reach out to property owners in the coming weeks to discuss the new rules.
