Suspect In Custody For McHenry County Deputies Shootings

McHenrySheriff.org

McHenry County authorities say a man suspected of shooting two sheriff's deputies is in custody.

Scott Peters allegedly fired a rifle through the front door when deputies arrived at his home early Thursday for a wellness check. The sheriff says Peters fled after the shooting.

Peters was captured Thursday afternoon about two miles from his Holiday Hills home.

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren says police were led to Peters by residents, who told investigators a man fitting the suspect's description was walking along a nearby street. Nygren says Peters didn't resist arrest.

Authorities say the two deputies are resting and stabilized in separate hospitals. The Daily Herald said they required surgery Thursday.

Nygren says the deputies were responding to a domestic disturbance call. He says Peters' wife and child were in the home but unharmed.

Holiday Hills is about 45 miles northwest of downtown Chicago.
